CCM Acting Class of 2018

The CCM Acting Class of 2018 will present their Senior Showcase at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. this Friday, March 23, 2018, in the Robert. J. Werner Recital Hall.

The annual DOLLY Awards ceremony follows the evening showcase performance and includes the recognition of an outstanding alumnus of the program — Drew DiCostanzo. These events are free and open to the public; reservations are not required.

The showcase performance consists of a variety of scenes by graduating seniors in CCM’s Acting program, demonstrating the depth and breadth of the acting skills they have honed during their undergraduate training at CCM. The Senior Showcase is the first presentation of a performance that the students will take on the road for their professional debuts in New York and Los Angeles.

The evening performance is followed by the annual DOLLY Awards, hosted by Professor Richard E. Hess, CCM’s A.B., Dolly, Ralph and Julia Cohen Chair of Acting. The awards recognize the outstanding student achievements and performances in the 2017-18 CCM Acting Season, which includes productions of Hamlet, The Earth Is Flat, the 48-Hour Film Festival, Love and Information and TRANSMIGRATION 2018. Awards are given for Excellence in Performance and Excellence in Ensemble Performance.

“The CCM Acting Class of 2018 has much to celebrate, despite the unexpected losses of their classmate Andrew Huyler Ramsey and Professor Rocco Dal Vera,” Hess says. “Their resiliency and light shines even brighter as they prepare to showcase their talents in Cincinnati, New York and Los Angeles. This is a truly special class.”

The highlight of the DOLLY Awards ceremony is the presentation of the 2018 Julia Winter Cohen Career Excellence Award. This year’s honoree is Drew DiCostanzo (BFA Dramatic Performance, 1994).

DiCostanzo was the producer/director/writer of the immersive and eccentric Dr. Havock’s Sideshow of Curiosities, which premiered at the Stratosphere in 2012 and placed No. 2 in Where Magazine’s Top 10 Haunts in Las Vegas. He was also part of the production team and provided original direction for Frankie Moreno Live at Stratosphere, which received “Best Strip Headliner” and “Best All-Around Performer” awards in 2012. Drew is married to Angela DiCostanzo and has a wonderful son, Dylan. The DiCostanzos spent nearly 12 years headlining their creative, fun and unique brand of magical entertainment around the world — on land and at sea — for such gaming and leisure icons as Caesars Palace, Monte Carlo (with Lance Burton), Disney Cruise Line, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises.

Established in 2003, DiCostanzo is the President and Creative Director of DV8 Reality Magic, which has produced original entertainment for companies such as Diageo, Novartis, State Farm, Bayer Crop Science, Procter & Gamble, ALCOA, DHL Airways and Pre-Paid Legal to name just a few. Additional illusionary design and direction credits include the 10-part PBS pilot series Dooley, water conservation show at Virginia’s Nauticus Museum in and OperaCadabra! for the Cincinnati Opera. DiCostanzo currently works for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas as their Senior Marketing Manager, Resident Shows Division.
